Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been in business and what kind of experience do you have?

TTS Contracting was officially established in 2022. However, our founder has more than 20 years experience in the construction industry as a carpenter and supervisor for a major local contracting firm.

We have  been doing home improvement projects and side work since 2007.   Our project resume includes numerous flooring projects (ceramic and porcelain tile, hard wood flooring, engineered laminate, and LVP) plus kitchen and bath refreshes and renovations. TTS Contracting  also has vast experience with vinyl siding and drywall installation. Our team members  even help clients with complete home renovations for house flips.

Are you licensed and insured?

TTS Contracting holds a Class A Contractors License issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Our specialties are Home Improvement Contracting and Commercial Improvement Contracting.

Our company has Liability and Workers Compensation insurance. We will gladly show you proof of insurance upon request.

What is included in my free estimate?

Oftentimes consumers just want a ballpark figure of what a project will cost and our complimentary estimate provides just that. It is quick pricing based on information that you provide on the contact form and/or during our telephone conversation.

Visit the Our Process page for more information about what happens next.

How long is my estimate good?

Our estimates are  good for 30 days. Vendor increases in material pricing prior to signing a contract may impact the estimated cost of your project.
*Estimates including promotional or discounted pricing are typically good for 14 days.

Do you accept credit cards?

We do not accept credit cards at this time.

What forms of payment do you accept?

TTS Contracting accepts cash and checks-written and e-checks.

Do you require a down payment?

Yes, we require a 10-20 percent down payment. Projects with special or custom order materials require a higher down payment.

After I pay the down payment, when is payment for the remaining balance due?

Payment specifications will be spelled out in the contract. But typically if a project is less than $5000, payment is expected in 2 installments—a down payment and a final payment upon completion of the project. For projects that are greater than $5000, there will be a progression payment schedule that is based on completed phases of the project and delivery or purchase of materials.

Why is it taking so long to schedule my project?

Honestly, the demand is high and we are a micro-business that does not work on a bunch of jobs at one time. It may take a short while to schedule your job. However, if you are patient, TTS Contracting pledges to provide you with an outstanding service along with finished product that you will love.

Why should I do business with you when another company gave me a lower price?

Here at TTS Contracting, we know everybody loves a bargain. Getting a good value for your hard earned money is important. However, there are times when saving money does not equal a good deal. A lower price may mean lower quality workmanship or cheap materials. Over time, low-quality results in the need for costly repairs and may even mean calling in another professional to re-do the work.

TTS Contracting may not offer the lowest price, but we are honest, dependable and upfront about what you are getting. We guarantee that no short cuts will be taken and no projects will be rushed. Our team of highly skill professionals will ensure that time is taken to complete every project to the highest possible standard.

How can I be sure that the cost of my job isn’t more than the estimate?

Honestly, you can’t. The price listed in your estimate is what we believe your project will cost based on our initial evaluation. Unfortunately even with all of our experience, we can’t tell what lies beneath your walls or floors or cabinets. As a result, once demo is underway it could lead to unforeseen discoveries that may impact the cost. For example, the floor beneath your vanity may have water damage that you were unaware of. When situations like this arise, the TTS Contracting team works with the homeowner to determine the best way to move forward. In the case of the rotten wood under the vanity, repairing or replacing the subfloor is necessary, which means an increase in estimated cost.

Can I purchase all of the materials for my project on my own?

TTS Contracting has worked with clients who have purchased their own materials. Keep in mind that this may involve visiting several stores, transporting and storing those materials. It also means that all materials must be available at the start of the project. And you must ensure that the type, quantity, and size of the materials are accurate. Bottom line-you may purchase your own materials.

It may be more feasible for you to purchase some products (for example vanity lights, chandeliers, faucets, sinks, tile, etc.) and leave the lumber, drywall, cement boards, countertops, wires, and other specialty fixtures to us. In other words, you get the decor items and leave the rough-in materials to us!

If I purchase my own materials, will you pick them up from the store for me?

We can arrange to pick up the materials needed for your project if you would like. There is a transport  fee for this service that is based on time, distance, material size, type,  and weight.

Why does my “small” job cost so much?

Just about every homeowner has needed minor work done at some point. For example you may have a few pieces of missing siding, flooring planks or deck boards that are damaged, or even a hole in the wall or ceiling that needs to be repaired.

In home improvement, labor setup time, mobilization time and minimum labor charges are commonly included for small jobs. This is likely the reason why the cost is higher than you anticipated.

Do you guarantee your work?

We typically offer a 1-year workmanship warranty. You may also benefit from the manufacturer’s warranty on some materials. If something happens that is within our control and included in the workmanship warranty and contract, we come in and get it fixed for you free of charge.
